About
After graduating from Central Michigan University with a BS in Health Fitness (a long way from any sort of engineering), I was still searching for a career path that inspired me and evoked passion, and maybe a decent paycheck. It turns out that I had stumbled upon it many years prior, while working periodically for my dad’s construction company. I remember being enamored with what I later realized was the structural engineering component of residential construction: beams, joists, rafters, columns, shear walls, foundations.
I headed back to school, this time at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. Three years later my wife and I moved to Arizona so I could work at one of the nation’s largest structural engineering consulting firms as an entry-level structural engineer. After three years in the desert, family and friends drew us back to Michigan where I built my engineering and project management skills at large architecture/engineering firms in the Greater Grand Rapids area. A career opportunity arose to move back home to Traverse City and our family gratefully returned to Northern Michigan where I’ve been a project engineer at a local structural engineering company.
The notion of testing my mettle has always appealed to me and being a small business owner is a heck of a way of doing that. Wieland Structural Engineering allows me to bring my nearly twenty years of experience in both residential and commercial projects in a variety of climates and communities to this business to provide my clients with outstanding structural engineering services.
My wife, Kristen, and I are raising three kids, Reagan, Brody and Ty in this Northern Michigan community we love so much.
